She'll trace the lingering words I left,
placating the sighs with whispers of her own,
the cutting edge of a double edged sword
that bled me dry from an autumn's war
of heartstones and trysts that
I would have deigned to keep,
if not for the way my blood pulsed,
yet how my heart failed to beat.
And she's the keepers keep
where little boys are prone to leave
their paper hearts on her shelves
of undusted age and portrayed mirages,
and twine themselves into her amber arms
and gossamer limned smiles,
where the words lose their depth
reasoning reduced to the barest
and most primitive of desires.
The lips lie but the eyes
ever so faintly betray the words.
